An advocate escaped a bullet injury late Monday night after unidentified assailants allegedly opened fire at his vehicle near the Kurali bypass in Mohali district, police said.

The victim, Gagandeep Jammu, of Sector 36-B, Chandigarh, was returning towards Chandigarh from Ropar along with his friend when the attack took place.

According to police, after the victim crossed the Bharatmala project bridge and reached near the Kurali bypass, an unidentified motorcycle-borne assailant allegedly fired three rounds at his car.

Police said the bullets struck the rear tyre and below the back window. The victim immediately stopped the vehicle on the roadside and managed to escape through the fields unharmed.

DSP Harkirat Singh of Kharar-2 said, “Three empty shells were recovered from the spot. An FIR has been against unidentified assailants and CCTV from nearby areas are being examined to identify the accused.”
