National Conference on Sunday announced Agha Syed Mehmood as party candidate from Budgam seat for the upcoming by-election.

Mehmood, a prominent Shia leader of the party, will fight the election from Budgam which fell vacant after Omar Abdullah decided to retain his Ganderbal seat and vacating the Budgam seat that he won in 2024 assembly elections.
“On the directions of the party leadership, JKNC has announced Agha Syed Mehmood as the party’s candidate for the upcoming Budgam assembly election. The party extends best wishes to him for a successful campaign in service of the people of Budgam,” the party said in a statement.
A former minister, Mehmood, has served as an MLA two times while also being a lawmaker in the legislative council (MLC).
Mehmood will face BJP’s Syed Mohsin in Budgam while PDP is expected to field Agha Syed Muntazir Mehdi from the constituency.
The by-elections in Nagrota and Budgam assembly constituencies will be held on November 11 and the counting of votes will take place on November 14.The last date for filing of nominations is October 20.
