National Institute of Technology (NIT), Kurukshetra, has launched a comprehensive mental health support system for its student body following weeks of protests sparked by four student suicides in the past two months.

Following a soft launch on May 11, the institute officially introduced an emotional support ecosystem this week designed to reach every student individually.
NIT-Kurukshetra has partnered with YourDOST, a leading online mental health platform, to provide a subscription-based service that merges digital accessibility with traditional on-campus care. The integrated programme features 24/7 digital counselling via app, a telephonic crisis helpline, and scheduled in-person visits from trained psychologists. Beyond immediate intervention, the initiative includes regular workshops and webinars specifically tailored to address student stress.
Brahmjit Singh, the officiating director, said that the platform provides a strictly confidential environment where students can connect with experts to navigate academic pressure, anxiety, and personal or financial challenges. He said the goal is to dismantle the stigma surrounding mental health by making resources immediate and accessible.
Lillie Dewan, the dean, student welfare, said the focus on identifying distress signals early will help foster personal resilience and create a more empathetic, supportive academic atmosphere for the campus community.
