For the first time its history, an external committee is conducting a review of Punjab Engineering College (PEC) to evaluate its academic and administrative functioning.
The external peer review committee’s three-day visit to the institute commenced on Monday. Over the course of their visit, members of the panel will interact with all stakeholders of PEC and propose a strategic plan to improve its functioning.
The committee, comprising established professionals from diverse fields, is chaired by Satish Kumar, chairman of the Armaments Research Board, defence research and development organisation (DRDO), Union ministry of defence.
PEC director Baldev Setia on Monday delivered a presentation before the committee, where he highlighted strengths, shortcomings, challenges and future goals of the institute. He also emphasised on reforms, steps and initiatives that are already being taken to excel in the existing NIRF ranking framework.
In this year’s NIRF rankings, PEC had slipped from 70th to the 87th position.
The committee also visited the computer centre, library, career development and guidance centre; semi-conductor research facility and central research facility. Hostels and sports complexes of the institute were also inspected. Deans also apprised the committee of their respective domains through presentations.

{{/usCountry}}Members of the committee include Pushvinder Jit Singh, managing director, Tynor Orthotics; Keya Dharamvir, general secretary, Society for Promotion of Science and Technology in India and Lalit Kumar Awasthi, director of NIT, Uttarakhand, Chandigarh BJP leader Sanjay Tandon and Col Prabhdeep Singh Sandhu (retd), an alumnus and former secretary to the Panjab University vice-chancellor.
