Cabinet minister Laljit Singh Bhullar on Wednesday formally started the distribution of compensation to flood-affected families, starting from Kishan Singh Wala village in Sultanpur Lodhi sub-division.
The minister handed over approval letters to around 25 farmers from Kishan Singh Wala, Chak Patti Balu Bahadur, and Hussainpur Bule villages in Kapurthala district. The funds for crop and house damage have been directly credited to beneficiaries’ bank accounts.
Addressing the gathering, Bhullar said Punjab is the first state in India to provide ₹20,000 per acre for destroyed crops. “In Kapurthala alone, ₹14.50 crore has been released,” he said.
In Jalandhar, cabinet minister Mohinder Bhagat kick-started the disbursement by handing over flood relief compensation worth ₹10 lakh to 47 affected farmers
He said in the coming days, ₹13 crore will be distributed among flood victims in Jalandhar district under the Mission Punarwas.
