Police said the attack took place near Jawanda’s arthiya (commission agent) shop.

Officials privy to the matter said the former Mansa zila parishad member sustained a bullet injury to the abdomen and was rushed to the sub-divisional government hospital in Budhlada. After administering first aid, he was referred to a hospital in Ludhiana for further treatment.

“CCTV footage from the area is being examined, and police teams have been formed to identify and arrest the assailant,” the DSP said.
