Two persons were injured when a private bus, a car and two motorcycles collided near Bharathla Road in Samrala on Sunday morning due to dense fog, bringing traffic to a standstill for nearly an hour and exposing illegal transportation of liquor.

The injured were the riders of the two motorcycles involved in the crash, police said, adding that they were admitted to a hospital in Samrala for treatment.
Police said the crash occurred under near-zero visibility when the bus and the Hyundai Verna collided head-on. The motorcycles passing through the area were also hit in the aftermath. The occupants of the car had fled the scene before police arrived, they added.
During inspection, police recovered around four cartons of illicit country liquor from the car.
Samrala SHO sub-inspector Harvinder Singh said, “Dense fog has increased the risk of accidents in the region. We have seized the illicit liquor bottles and have launched a manhunt to trace the absconding suspects. An investigation is underway to identify those involved in illegal liquor smuggling.”
The damaged vehicles were removed from the highway and traffic movement was restored around an hour after the accident.
