The SIT-led by ADGP LK Yadav has asked Sukhbir to appear at Punjab Police Officers’ Institute in Sector 32, Chandigarh, on Monday. Sukhbir has been asked to appear before SIT in connection with two first information reports (FIRs) registered at the Kotkapura city police station on October 14, 2015, and August 7, 2018.

The SIT had questioned Sukhbir on September 14. This will be the third time that SIT led by Yadav will question Sukhbir in connection with the Kotkapura firing case. The probe team had also questioned Sukhbir on June 26 last year.

Earlier, the SIT led by former IG Kunwar Vijay Pratap Singh, who is now an AAP MLA, had questioned the SAD chief in November 2018.

The SIT led by inspector general of police (IGP) Naunihal Singh has also questioned Sukhbir in the Behbal Kalan firing case on September 6 and October 13.

On October 14, 2015, police opened fire at people protesting at Kotkapura and Behbal Kalan against a sacrilege incident that had taken place at Bargari in Faridkot district. While two protesters, Gurjeet Singh of Sarawan village, and Krishan Bhagwan Singh of Niamiwala village in Faridkot district, were killed in Behbal Kalan, several were injured in Kotkapura. An SIT, led by ADGP LK Yadav, is probing the Kotkapura firing incident, while another SIT led by IGP Naunihal Singh is investigating the Behbal Kalan incident.
