Speeding car runs over woman, leaves her 5-yr-old son hurt in Mohali

A 38-year-old woman was killed while her five-year-old son had a miraculous escape with minor injuries, after a car hit them while they were walking in Mohali’s Thaska village on Sunday. The driver sped away after the mishap but was subsequently arrested.

The deceased has been identified as Rekha, who hailed from Nepal and was residing in Mohali for the past few years. Her five-year-old son is under treatment at a local hospital.

Balongi station house officer (SHO) inspector PS Grewal said the driver sped away soon after the accident but he was later traced and identified as Bhupinder Prasad. He has been booked under Sections 281 (rash or negligent driving on public way), 106 (causing death by rash or negligent acts) and 125(a) (acts endangering human life or personal safety through rash or negligent behaviour) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) on the statement of the victim’s husband.
