Senior police officers of Ghaziabad, Shamli, Meerut and Delhi on Wednesday reportedly received an email in which the sender threatened to blow up railway stations in western UP.
Ghaziabad police sources said the incident is being probed by teams of Uttar Pradesh Anti-Terrorist Squad and the UP Police.
According to police, the message landed in the official inboxes of the district police chiefs and the UP-ATS teams swung into action. Police also gave directions for conducting thorough checks of all railway stations in western UP. “The mail is a transliteration (words in Hindi typed in English) and it mentioned that the stations would be blown up within 72 hours. After we received the email, we alerted police teams and ATS. We are also investigating and trying to find the source of the email,” Upendra Kumar Agrawal, deputy inspector general of police, Ghaziabad, said.
According to sources, the teams of UP-ATS and police have picked up several persons from western UP in this connection and is likely to make a breakthrough in the case soon.
Sources said the police are also trying to find out whether this was a prank or were “encouraged by someone”.

{{/usCountry}}Earlier in April, the UP Police had sounded a statewide alert after two letters, threatening to target UP chief minister, were received by Shamli and Roorkee railway stations. The mails also spoke of targeting religious places such as the Vishwanath temple in Varanasi and ‘Ram Janambhoomi’ in Ayodhya.
