AAP alleges discrepancy in dengue data; MCD responds

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has alleged discrepancy in official dengue data, saying that the figures presented to the Parliament and those in a Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) report were different.

“As per the official answer to a Parliament question on December 16, the health ministry reported 3,746 dengue cases in Delhi. However, in a report released on December 13, the MCD cited only 1,438 cases,” Delhi AAP president Saurabh Bharadwaj said in a post on X.

Responding to the allegations, an MCD official, who asked not to be named, said the figures for dengue cases presented to the Parliament were higher because they collated both confirmed and unconfirmed cases in the city.

“We sent our Vector Borne Diseases report dated November 29 to the health ministry. It shows 1,356 confirmed and 2,390 unconfirmed cases — cases where either the infection was acquired from other states, or the address reported was incomplete or wrong, or the patient could not be found. If you add the two numbers, it matches the figure shown to the parliament,” he said.
