Ankit Gujjar’s aide arrested with guns in east Delhi

NEW DELHI: An associate of UP gangster Ankit Gujjar, who died in his Tihar Jail cell prompting a CBI probe, was arrested by the Delhi Police on Monday from north-east Delhi’s Welcome area.

The police said, Amit Dedha, was also associated with the gang of Rhot Chaudhary, was part of an inter-state arms racket. They said two semi-automatic pistols and 17 live cartridges, besides one stolen scooter, were recovered from Dedha’s possession.
Sanjay Kumar Sain, deputy commissioner of police (north-east district) said a police team acting on a tip-off were waiting for the suspect near Peelee Mitti Puliya in Welcome. “Dedha was riding a scooter. The police team signalled him to stop, but accelerated instead. The police team chased and overpowered him after a scuffle. A sophisticated, semi-automatic pistol (0.30 mm bore) loaded with nine live cartridges was recovered from his possession. On further search one more sophisticated semi-automatic pistol (0.32 mm bore) loaded with six live cartridges and one country made pistol with two live cartridge were recovered from the storage compartment of the two-wheeler,” he said.
It was also found that the scooter was stolen from the Rajouri Garden police station area on February 17 this year. “During interrogation, the 30-year-old accused, a resident of Loni in Ghaziabad, told the police that he used to receive illegal arms and ammunition from a source in Baghpat (UP) and supply them in different areas of Delhi and NCR. He also disclosed his close association with Ankit Gujjar (who was recently killed in Tihar jail). We have also found his involvement in multiple cases of murder, attempt to murder and Arms Act registered in Uttar Pradesh,” the DCP said.
He added that Dedha is Class 10 dropout, who started a dairy business in his native village, Ilaichipur, in Ghaziabad district. “He later joined the crime world and remained associated with gangs of Ankit Gujjar and Rohit Chaudhary. He used to procure illegal arms and ammunition from his sources in Baghpat and supply them to various gangs in active in Delhi and NCR,” Sain said.
