Bribery case: MCD suspends officer days after CBI arrest

Delhi's MCD suspended Deputy Commissioner Colonel Abhishek Kumar Mishra after his arrest for bribery allegations by the CBI. Mamta Yadav is his replacement.

The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) on Thursday suspended Colonel Abhishek Kumar Mishra, its deputy commissioner of Shahdara North zone, two days after he was arrested by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) over allegations of bribery, said senior civic officials from vigilance department.

According to MCD officials, Mishra was the inquiry officer looking into complaint against the two suspended employees of the civic body

The civic body also has orders for his replacement. Mamta Yadav, the assessor and collector of the corporation will be operational as deputy commissioner of the Shahdara North zone in addition of her own assignment, said the April 2 order, seen by HT.

On March 31, CBI had arrested Mishra, as well as administrative officer Devanshu Gautam of the same zone, for allegedly demanding ₹4 lakh as a bribe. He was sent to 15-day judicial custody after he was produced in court.

According to MCD officials, Mishra was the inquiry officer looking into complaint against the two suspended employees of the civic body. The suspended employees had approached the CBI with complaint that Gautam demanded the money on behalf of Mishra to favour them in the inquiry report.

CBI further said it had laid a trap on March 30 and caught the accused administrative officer red-handed. During further proceedings, the role of the accused deputy commissioner emerged.
