Cylinder leak causes fire in Mangolpuri house, 4 injured

A fire caused by a gas leak in north Delhi injured a 20-year-old man and three women; they were rescued and treated at local hospitals.

A 20-year-old man and three women suffered injuries after a fire broke out inside their house in north Delhi’s Mangolpuri on Sunday afternoon, police said.

According to police, gas leaking from a cylinder in the house caused the fire. Locals told police that they heard a loud bursting noise and saw flames coming out from the house in L Block, so they informed the police station and the Delhi Fire Services.

A team from the DFS rescued the four residents, identified as Dheeraj, 20, his 19-year-old wife, and two 16-year-old sisters.

Police said the family was near the kitchen when the gas started leaking from the cylinder and a fire broke out. Before the residents could escape, the fire and smoke spread to the roof and they were trapped. Police said the cause behind the fire is being ascertained. Other family members, who had gone out for work, are being traced.

“Out of the four injured persons, two are undergoing treatment at SGM Hospital, while two have been referred to a higher centre for treatment,” a senior police officer said.
