Police on Monday registered an FIR against former Congress councillor Sushil Raju Thapar, his son Chirag Raju Thapar and two others for thrashing a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) worker for making video of the road that had caved in at Deep Nagar on October 6.
The entire incident was streamed live on social networking site Facebook by the victim.
Sushil Raju Thapar is husband of present Congress councillor from ward number 83, Indu Thapar.
The two accomplices of Thapar, who have been booked, are Badal and Vikas Goyal. Police have registered the FIR under Sections 323 (voluntarily causing hurt), 341 (wrongful restraint), 506 (criminal intimidation), 148 (rioting) and 149 (every member of unlawful assembly guilty of offence committed in prosecution of common object) of the IPC.
The victim, Gaurav Kalia, said he was an active worker of the BJP. “On Sunday, a road in Deep Nagar had caved in and a Toyota Fortuner was stuck in the crater,” he added. Kalia told the police he was present at the spot when the cave-in occurred. “When I was narrating the incident to some people, Sushil Raju Thapar, his son Chirag Raju Thapar, driver Badal and another accomplice came and thrashed me. The accused hit me with iron rods and tools used for construction,” he added.
Kalia claimed that as he was speaking against the Congress councillor for the negligence, her husband and son thrashed him.

Reports of main water supply line, which passes through the area where cave-in had occurred, getting damaged poured in on Monday evening. The latest development has deprived residents of five streets of potable water supply.
Area councillor Indu Thapar said the road was repaired on Sunday evening and the main water supply line might have got damaged in the process. “Water tankers have been sent to the area. We are expecting it to be repaired by Tuesday,” she said.
