To ensure uninterrupted operations of the Rapid Metro, the Haryana Vidyut Prasaran Nigam Ltd (HVPNL) has connected the 220 kV power station in Sector 56 with the 400 kV substation at Kadarpur village, creating an alternate power supply for the network, officials said.

The new arrangement gives the Sector 56 substation two power sources, one from the existing Sector 72 substation and another from Kadarpur.
The move follows a fire at the Sector 72 power station on May 21 that disrupted supply to the Sector 56 substation, halting Rapid Metro services for around 50 minutes during the evening.
HVPNL executive engineer Anil Malik said the new connectivity would ensure uninterrupted supply even if a fault occurs at the Sector 72 substation. “The other areas dependent on Sector 56 substation will also benefit from this connectivity,” he said.
The 11.6km Rapid Metro corridor runs from Cyber Hub to Sector 56 along Golf Course Road with 11 stations and interchanges with the Yellow Line at Sikanderpur.
Earlier this year, HMRTC had sought an additional power connection for the Rapid Metro. In March, it also reported a 13.55% rise in ridership during 2025-26 compared with April 1, 2024 to January 31, 2025.
