Rupa Dutta, a Bengali actress who has appeared in a Hindi movie and a television serial, was arrested on Saturday evening from the Kolkata International Book Fair grounds in Salt Lake on charges of pickpocketing, police said.

Dutta was held on the basis of suspicion when she was found dropping some purses in a garbage can. When her bag was searched, police found some more purses, a sum of ₹65,000 and a diary that contained an account of the money she had stolen over some time, said officers at a Salt Lake police station.
“She confessed during interrogation that she had stolen purses earlier also,” an officer said on condition of anonymity.
Dutta hit headlines in 2020 when she accused Bollywood director Anurag Kashyap of sending her indecent messages on a social media platform. It was found that she had never even met Kashyap and the person who allegedly sent her the messages was a different man.
Police produced Dutta at a court in Salt Lake on Sunday afternoon.
