LUCKNOW Amidst tight security and Covid protocol, the city is set to observe Ashura, the 10th day of Moharram, to commemorate the martyrdom of Imam Hussain here on Friday. This year too, there will be no traditional processions, but the administration has permitted burial of ‘tazia’ at the Karbala.

The administration has maintained that the tazia burial would be carried out by groups of less than three people while maintaining social distancing.

Shia cleric Maulana Kalbe Jawad urged people to strictly follow Covid protocols and other guidelines issued by the UP government in this regard. “In the days of Moharram, we all should ensure that Covid guidelines are strictly followed,” he said.

The cleric also said people should ensure there are not more than 50 people at a time in ‘majlis’ (religious gatherings).

As a precautionary measure, the district administration has made elaborate security arrangements in Old City. The entire area has been divided into sectors and sector magistrates have been deployed to keep strict vigil.

Commissioner of police DK Thakur said elaborate security arrangements have been made in Old City in wake of Ashura and it would be ensured that the state government guidelines are followed strictly.
