VARANASI A court on Thursday dismissed the revision petition filed against Congress MP Rahul Gandhi for his statement about Sikhs in India during his visit to the US in 2024.
Speaking to the diaspora in Virginia Gandhi had said that the fight in India was not about politics. Turning to a Sikh member of the audience, Gandhi asked for his name and then said, “The fight is about whether he, as a Sikh, is going to be allowed to wear a turban in India; or whether, he, as a Sikh, will be allowed to wear a kada in India; or whether he, as a Sikh, is allowed to go to a Gurudwara. That’s what the fight is about, and not just for him, but for all religions.”
Additional district government counsel (crime) Vinay Singh said the court of special judge (MP-MLA) Yajuvendra Vikram Singh dismissed the revision petition filed against Rahul Gandhi regarding a statement he made about Sikhs living in India during his visit to the US.
After hearing arguments of the parties in the case, the court had reserved its order on the revision petition for July 9. In its order, the court stated that the order passed by additional chief judicial magistrate IV (MP-MLA) was justified, logical and in accordance with the law — regarding both facts and legal principles — and that there were no grounds to interfere with it. The revision petition was deemed meritless and liable to be dismissed.

{{/usCountry}}Nageshwar Mishra, a former village head (pradhan) and resident of Ashapur (Sarnath), had filed an application in a court on September 26, 2024, regarding the statement made by Rahul Gandhi about Sikhs.
The then additional CJM (IV) (MP-MLA) Neeraj Kumar Tripathi had dismissed this application on November 28, 2024. Aggrieved by this order, Nageshwar Mishra filed a revision petition in the district judge’s court. Following a hearing, special judge (MP-MLA) Yajuvendra Vikram Singh allowed the revision petition on July 21, 2025, and directed the additional CJM (IV) (MP-MLA) to rehear the application.
Rahul Gandhi filed a petition challenging the decision to allow the revision in the Allahabad high court on August 26, 2025. After a hearing, the HC dismissed Gandhi’s petition on September 26, 2025.
Subsequently, the revision plea was reheard in the court of the then additional CJM IV (MP-MLA) Neeraj Kumar Tripathi. The court dismissed the application on October 17, 2025.
Mishra then filed another revision petition before the district judge. The matter was transferred by the district judge to the court of additional district judge Yajuvendra Vikram Singh, designated as special judge (MP/MLA court), where it was heard. After hearing all the parties, the court dismissed the revision petition.
