Three Bangladeshi students studying at the Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) were served show-cause notices on Wednesday evening for allegedly making derogatory comments on social media against India, Hindutva and International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON) temples, said incharge of foreign students at AMU Dr Syed Ali Nawaz Zaidi on Thursday.

Screenshots of these comments were bought to notice of the AMU administration on Wednesday following which the university’s proctorial team issued the show-cause notices to the three students and warned them of action if no suitable reply came, said Dr Zaidi.

The derogatory post and similar comments on them by the three Bangladeshi students were made on different days recently. Confirming it, Dr Syed Ali Nawaz Zaidi, also the assistant proctor at AMU, said, “One of these three students is currently at the university while another returned to Bangladesh after his graduation and leaving his PG midway.”

“The third Bangladeshi student had applied for admission at AMU and got it but because of visa issues has not reached the university so far,” he added.

Recently, the AMU administration affirmed that security of Bangladeshi students was a priority well attended by them. As per Dr Zaidi, around 35 to 40 students from Bangladesh are enrolled at various departments of the AMU.
