Hindus revere Sant Kabir despite his criticism of orthodoxy: Yogi
After inaugurating and laying the foundations for 201 development projects worth more than ₹684 crore in Sant Kabir Nagar, Adityanath said, “Sant Kabir was from the Nirgun tradition. Chief minister Yogi Adityanath on Tuesday said Hindus revered Sant Kabir Das despite his criticism of Hindu orthodoxy, while Muslims had been less receptive to his legacy, asserting that his teachings transcended religious boundaries.
After inaugurating and laying the foundations for 201 development projects worth more than ₹684 crore in Sant Kabir Nagar, Adityanath said, “Sant Kabir was from the Nirgun tradition. He spoke as much against Hindu orthodoxy as he did against Islamic fundamentalism. But Hindus worshipped him, while Muslims would not even touch him. This is the difference.”
Highlighting efforts to preserve Kabir’s legacy, Adityanath said BJP governments under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s guidance had undertaken several initiatives related to him.
“Today, an academy is being built in the name of Sant Kabir Das ji, an auditorium is also being constructed, and at the same time, we are working on the construction of a corridor for Baba Tameshwarnath Dham,” he said.
The chief minister said a spinning mill in the district had been shut down due to the “corrupt” practices of previous Congress and Samajwadi Party governments, but efforts were now underway to revive it.
He also criticised the previous governments over the spread of encephalitis in eastern Uttar Pradesh, alleging that little was done to control the disease during their tenure.
“This region used to be terrorised by encephalitis. People suffered from brain fever, but the Congress and the Samajwadi Party did nothing about it. I consider myself fortunate that after the BJP-led NDA government came to power, we eliminated encephalitis,” Adityanath said.
The chief minister also warned that those attempting to interfere with the employment prospects of Uttar Pradesh’s youth would face strict action, including the confiscation of property.
He accused previous Congress and Samajwadi Party governments of corruption in recruitment and development schemes and said his government had established a transparent recruitment process to provide employment opportunities to young people.
Taking a dig at Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav, Adityanath criticised their remarks on the state’s youth and employment situation.
“Rahul ji and Akhilesh Yadav ji, I don’t know whether you are educated or not. Their statements make me laugh,” the chief minister said.
Adityanath said his government had focused on creating an environment where investment, industries and employment could grow together.
“If anyone commits a robbery on the jobs of the youth, we will send them to hell,” he warned, asserting that his government would not tolerate attempts to compromise the future of young people.
Citing improvements in law and order, development and investment as key indicators, the chief minister claimed that Uttar Pradesh had undergone significant transformation in recent years.
He also claimed that religious events, including Durga Puja and Shobha Yatras, were now being conducted safely across the state.
