The campaign for the December 5 bypolls has begun warming up with chief minister Yogi Adityanath set to join it in Mainpuri on Monday.

Yogi Adityanath is scheduled to address a public meeting at Narsingh Yadav Inter College in Karhal, an assembly segment of Mainpuri Lok Sabha. Karhal is currently represented by Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav in the Uttar Pradesh assembly.
Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav’s wife Dimple Yadav is contesting the Mainpuri bypoll necessitated by SP founder Mulayam Singh Yadav’s demise on October 10.
Yogi Adityanath will also campaign in Rampur and Khatauli assembly constituencies where the bypolls are scheduled.
Of the three seats where bypolls will be held on December 5, two – Mainpuri Lok Sabha and Rampur (Sadar) assembly – are constituencies where the BJP has never won. The main opposition Samajwadi Party (SP) has never lost here since 1996.
Khatauli assembly seat in Muzaffarnagar is being contested by the SP’s alliance partner Rashtriya Lok Dal (RLD).
Deputy chief minister Keshav Prasad Maurya while campaigning in Mainpuri Lok Sabha seat on Sunday sought to reason out the SP’s prolonged win here.
“Earlier, the goons of the Samajwadi Party would not let people cast their votes freely. Now, this won’t happen and I urge you all to make a list of such goons who issue threats,” Maurya said while urging voters to vote freely.
