Plugged into phone, man killed while crossing rly track

A man in Lucknow died after being hit by a train while crossing tracks, reportedly wearing earphones and unaware of the approaching train.

A man in his early 30s was hit by a train and died while trying to cross a railway track in the Madiaon area of Lucknow on Monday morning. Police said that according to eyewitnesses, the victim was allegedly wearing earphones and may not have heard the approaching train. The phone and earphones were also recovered from the place of the accident.

The accident occurred near Bhitauli crossing under the jurisdiction of Madiaon police station.

“The impact was so severe that the victim was flung several metres away and landed near a pile of wood along the tracks,” said locals.

The deceased was identified as Shoaib, a resident of Janakipuram Vistar Sector-3. He earned his livelihood by selling bangles door-to-door and was the sole breadwinner of his family, said Shivanand Mishra, SHO, Madiaon.

After the incident, panic gripped the area. Teams from the Government Railway Police and local police reached the spot. Officials recovered a pair of headphones, a wallet and a mobile phone from the scene.

“The body has been sent for post-mortem examination, and further investigation is underway,” added the SHO. Inconsolable family members rushed to the spot after receiving information.
