Three Lko post offices get modern makeover, offer Aadhaar and passport services

The post offices will continue to provide conventional postal services, savings bank and insurance facilities. However, their role has expanded in recent years.

: From handling letters and parcels to offering Aadhaar and passport-related services, three post offices in Lucknow are set for a modern makeover.

Officials said the makeover was part of the department of posts’ broader effort to transform its extensive network into a modern, technology-enabled and citizen-focused service delivery system (For representation only)

The renovated Nirala Nagar, Indira Nagar and Gomti Nagar sub-post offices were virtually inaugurated from New Delhi on Monday by Union communications minister Jyotiraditya M Scindia and minister of state for communications Chandra Sekhar Pemmasani.

Designed by the School of Planning and Architecture (SPA), New Delhi, under the “Jan Seva Connect” concept, the revamped post offices aim to move beyond the traditional image of postal counters. They will provide citizens with a more accessible and technology-enabled service experience.

“The redesigned facilities focus on modernity, accessibility and inclusiveness, with an emphasis on making government-linked services easier for citizens to access under one roof,” the Department of Posts said in a press note.

At the Nirala Nagar post office, Lucknow North MLA Neeraj Bora was the chief guest. Bakshi Ka Talab MLA Yogesh Shukla attended the inauguration at the Indira Nagar post office, while Uttar Pradesh MLC Pawan Singh Chauhan was the chief guest at Gomti Nagar.

The post offices will continue to provide conventional postal services, savings bank and insurance facilities. However, their role has expanded in recent years. The renovated centres also offer services such as Aadhaar enrolment and updates, as well as Passport Seva Kendras.

Officials said the makeover was part of the department of posts’ broader effort to transform its extensive network into a modern, technology-enabled and citizen-focused service delivery system.

“The renovated post offices mark a major step in that direction,” officials said. They added that the new facilities had been designed to provide a more convenient and customer-friendly experience.

Postmaster general (Lucknow HQ Region) Sunil Kumar Rai, postmaster general (Mail & BD) Ashok Kumar Yadav, director postal services (HQ) Ansuya Prasad and Senior superintendent of post offices, Lucknow division, Aayush Attri, along with other officers and employees, were present at the events.
