Three more arrested in Lucknow’s Madiaon robbery case

Six assailants had robbed a trader couple of cash and valuables worth lakhs after holding them hostage in their house in Madiaon on Saturday

LUCKNOW The Lucknow police on Tuesday arrested three more accused in the Madiaon robbery case and recovered valuables along with cash from their possession, said police officials. Cops got information about these three from another accused who was nabbed after an encounter in Madiaon on Monday.

Six assailants had robbed a trader couple – Rishi Gupta and his wife Shalini – of cash and valuables worth lakhs after holding them hostage in their house in Madiaon on Saturday. Gupta owns a wholesale business of disposal plates and supplies these to several districts adjoining Lucknow.

Addressing a press conference, deputy commissioner of police (south) S Chinappa informed that those arrested included Rehan Ahmad Qazi, Vibhor Jindal and a 17-year-old boy. He said one Pankaj Verma was arrested on Monday after being injured in an encounter with the police. He was the mastermind of the robbery and had around 16 criminal cases registered against him since 2010.

Six people were involved in the robbery at the trader’s house while two more people involved in the incident – Arzoo Khan and Vaibhav Gupta – were at large, said the DCP.
