The Maharashtra anti-terrorism squad (ATS) on Wednesday night registered a case against Ayaz Sultan, 23, from Malwani, last believed to be in Afghanistan and currently suspected to be in the ISIS-controlled territory, for supporting and being a member of the banned terror outfit.
The case has been registered under Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA), 1967. This is the second such case, after Areeb Majeed from Kalyan was booked by the National Investigating agency (NIA) in November last year.
The development of a case under UAPA was confirmed by inspector general of police ( ATS), Maharashtra Niket Kaushik.
ATS officers said their inquiry revealed that prima facie Ayaz left the country to join a banned organisation, which he abetted and supported, and hence the case was filed against him and other unknown people. An investigation by an officer of the rank assistant commissioner of police (ACP) has begun.
ATS sources said Ayaz left for Kabul from New Delhi. The case was filed under sections 10 (being member of an unlawful association), 13 (unlawful activities), 18 (Conspiracy), 38 (Offence related to membership of a terrorist organization) and 39 (Offence related to support given to a terrorist organisation).
Ayaz, a call centre employee, had left on October 25 and a missing person’s complaint was registered on October 30 at Malwani police station by his mother.

{{/usCountry}}While leaving home, he told his family he was going to Pune for visa formalities and that he had got a job in Kuwait.
Ayaz, according to sources, has a Pakistani father and an Indian mother.
He was born outside India and has lived and worked in Kuwait previously.
