State home department may initiate disciplinary action against special IG of Amravati division, Vithal Jadhav, for his allegations through social media against director general of police Satish Mathur. The government has asked the officer to submit his statement based on which action will be initiated against him for violation of service rules. Mathur, too, has been asked to submit a report on the issue, said sources.
Jadhav had reportedly forwarded messages to his fellow officers saying that he had no other option but to commit suicide, as he was being harassed by his seniors just because he was a Maratha, adding that the humiliation had crossed all limits and was unbearable. He had also mentioned that the director general of police, Mathur, would be solely responsible for the drastic step.
Soon after the message went viral, the home department decided to take action against him. “He appears to have violated the service rules by levelling allegations through social media. If he had any grievances, he should have approached his seniors, officers in the home department or me instead of expressing himself on the social media. We have asked him to submit his say to the additional chief secretary KP Bakshi. If we find him to be guilty of indiscipline, a departmental inquiry will be initiated against him,” said Deepak Kesarkar, minister of state for home.
Meanwhile, the state government issued an explanation saying that the DGP was not summoned, but had come to Mantralaya for a pre-scheduled meeting on the police housing. The explanation comes in the wake of reports that Mathur was summoned by chief minister Devendra Fadnavis on the backdrop of the allegations by Jadhav.

{{/usCountry}}Home department sources said Jadhav’s seniors were not happy with him in connection with a police inspector who was held responsible for inept handling of a riot during Ganpati immersion in Yavatmal a few months ago. The lower rung officer was being shielded, though he was held responsible in an inquiry held by an assistant superintendent of police. The seniors were also unhappy over the delayed action in a sexual abuse incident at a tribal boarding school at Buldhana.
