The incident took place on Wednesday night but came to light when the victims along with their father lodged an FIR with the women’s police station in Bhabua on Friday. The medical examination of the victims was conducted at Sadar hospital and statement recorded under section 164 CrPC in Bhabua court on Saturday.

Kaimur SP, Harpreet Kaur, said the accused were absconding after the incident and teams had been dispatched to raid their possible hideouts. “The case was reported three days after the incident. We have not got the medical report. I have spoken to the civil surgeon and expect to get the report by Monday,” said the SP.

Police said the two sisters along with their baby brother and mother were sleeping in their thatched hutment in Kaimur valley, about 230 km from Patna, when two men carrying firearms barged in around 9 pm, tied and gagged the mother before abducting the two girls, aged 15 and 17, and fleeing to a remote area.

Police said the two girls were repeatedly raped and were released after an hour. The two survivors later reached home and freed their mother.

The father of the victims is a farm labourer and had gone to a relative’s place on the ill-fated day.

The victims narrated their ordeal to the police after their father returned home on Friday. Sources said a case of kidnapping and rape was registered against two persons based on the statements of the two victims. Station house officer (SHO) Kumari Anchala has kept the girls under security.

“We are carrying out intensive raids. The culprits will be arrested soon,” said Kaur, Kaimur SP. This is the second incident of rape and kidnapping of teenage girls in the district in recent times.

On September 24, two minor girls of a Dalit family were kidnapped from a village under the same police station area. They had been gang-raped for five days and released following police pressure.
