Mumbai: A day after he was last seen mourning and burying his pet cat near Juhu’s Irla nullah, a 24-year-old man was found dead in the drain on Saturday, police said.

The deceased, identified as Nihal Nazim Mirza, a resident of Jannat Nagar in Juhu Galli, went missing on Friday night. When he failed to return home and his phone remained switched off, his family alerted the police.
On Saturday morning, his slippers were found near the edge of the nullah, prompting the fire brigade to launch a search operation.
“He was suspected to have fallen off the nullah after he was last seen at that point there by his friends and his chappals were also found there,” said Andheri fire station officer Ravi Pawde.
“We searched the nullah using an anchor hook for over one-and-a-half hours before locating the body. Two firefighters entered the nullah and brought it up.”
He said the operation was hampered by the dark, muddy water and thick sludge, where the body had become lodged.
Mirza was taken to Dr R.N. Cooper Hospital, where doctors declared him dead on arrival.
