Mumbai: The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has launched a special drive to water trees across the city in light of recent incidents of tree collapse in Bandra, where two girls were injured, and Andheri, where a bus conductor lost his life.

Tankers are being used to water trees so that soil moisture is maintained and roots do not weaken, increasing chances of trees collapsing, civic officials said.
The solid waste management department has begun watering roadside trees during road-cleaning operations, with drives already undertaken at Santacruz and Juhu, the BMC said.
The civic body has appealed to housing societies and private establishments to water trees within their premises. Tree experts cited by the civic body said timely watering helps reduce heat stress and improves tree stability during extreme weather conditions.
