Mumbai: Train services on the Harbour line were briefly affected on Monday afternoon after an intoxicated man was found sleeping on the railway tracks at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT), leading the motorman of an incoming local to apply emergency brakes.

The incident occurred at around 3.30 pm on Platform 1, when the motorman of a Vashi–CSMT train noticed a man lying on the tracks, covered with a white plastic sheet. He immediately honked and applied emergency brakes, alerting Railway Protection Force (RPF) personnel and other railway staff.
On-duty Sub-Inspector Vivek and Constable Rajesh Chitte rushed to the spot and found that the individual, a scrap bottle picker, had stepped onto the tracks and fallen asleep while intoxicated.
The man was taken to the RPF police station where he identified himself as Avinash Prakash Karadile, 18, stating that he lives on the footpath near the BEST bus station at CSMT. A case has been registered against him under Section 147 of the Railway Act.
Officials said the train was not detained further and experienced no significant delay as the incident occurred during non-peak hours.
