Porsche crashes on Mumbai Coastal Road; driver escapes with injuries

A speeding Porsche crashed into a barricade on Mumbai’s Coastal Road, with airbags deploying instantly to save the driver, who was hospitalised.

A luxury car crashed into a barricade on the Coastal Road along Mumbai’s western coastline on Sunday morning. The driver was saved as the vehicle’s airbags deployed instantly upon impact, police said.

According to the Mumbai Traffic Police, the accident took place on the northbound carriageway at 8.30 am on Sunday.

Police officers said the grey Porsche was speeding at the time of the accident. The driver was admitted to hospital for treatment, an officer added.

The police have cordoned off the road and are making efforts to remove the damaged car and reopen the road for commuters. Officers said that, being Sunday, the road was not crowded.

Three days ago, a car was damaged after it caught fire inside the Coastal Road tunnel, halting traffic for over an hour until the vehicle was towed away. The passengers escaped unhurt.
