Mumbai: Emphasising the need for industry-relevant education, Vice President C. P. Radhakrishnan on Saturday said that degrees alone are not enough and students must be equipped with practical skills.

Speaking at the first convocation of Ratan Tata Maharashtra State Skill University, he urged students aspiring to become entrepreneurs to draw inspiration from Ratan Tata, highlighting the importance of combining business success with social responsibility.
Governor Jishnu Dev Varma and Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis were also present along with other senior leaders at the event. Varma said universities must promote innovation and adaptability through continuous reskilling and upskilling.
Fadnavis underlined the role of skill development in leveraging India’s demographic advantage. He also stressed the inclusion of emerging fields such as artificial intelligence, robotics and data analytics in academic curricula to meet evolving industry requirements.
Fadnavis further highlighted the university’s “AI Living Lab” initiative and said it has trained 10,000 women in artificial intelligence.
