NAVI MUMBAI: Two women in their final month of pregnancy, requiring urgent hospitalisation were rescued on Tuesday from flooded villages in Raigad where road access was cut off following incessant rainfall. The operation was carried out by inflatable rescue boats, and the women were shifted to hospitals.

The first operation was launched for 23-year-old Payal Rajesh Patil from Rave village in Raigad who was nine-month pregnant and needed urgent hospitalisation for delivery. The village was completely inundated by floodwaters, and all road links were submerged, which made rescue efforts difficult.
The alert was conveyed by Raigad Zilla Parishad Health Committee chairman Vaikunth Patil to resident deputy collector and chief executive officer of the District Disaster Management Authority, Sandesh Shirke.
“The force of the current and the increased water level made it impossible to use conventional fishing boats. After assessing the situation, it was decided to deploy a government-provided inflatable rescue boat,” said district disaster management officer Sagar Pathak.
Trained Aapda Mitra (community disaster response) volunteers Abhiket Mhatre and Rajesh Mhatre navigated the inflatable boat through the floodwaters to reach the stranded family and rescued Payal Patil and four others, carrying them safely to the riverbank.
“An ambulance had already been stationed at the rescue point, allowing Patil to be shifted immediately to a hospital in Pen for further treatment,” said the officer.
