A woman succumbed to severe burns from a December 21 fire in Andheri, while two others remain critically injured. The fire was reported late.

MUMBAI: A woman who suffered severe burn injuries in a household fire at Andheri’s Vijay Nagar has succumbed to her injuries on Wednesday. The fire incident occurred on December 21 and was reported to the civic officials only on Sunday.

According to civic officials, the deceased has been identified as Veena Pradip Bhoite, who died while undergoing treatment at Kasturba Hospital on Wednesday, following the fire that broke out at Ramabai Ambedkar Nagar chawl in Marol on December 21. Two others, who were also injured in the incident, Namdeo Sakpal and Laxmi Sakpal, remain in critical condition and are currently undergoing treatment in the intensive care unit at the same hospital. The incident was reported to the civic officials on Sunday.

The fire originated from electrical installations and quickly spread, engulfing household articles, including clothes and mattresses, inside the single-storey chawl, officials said.
