Noida: The Children’s Protection Home in Phase-2, Gautam Budh Nagar is being run over capacity, officials of the District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) observed during an inspection on Monday.

Officials found that children from other districts are also being accommodated at the home.

“A total of 142 ‘children in conflict with law’ are detained in the observation home, but the total capacity is 100. Of the 142 children, 59 are from Ghaziabad, 14 from Saharanpur, and 69 from Gautam Budh Nagar district,” said Dharmendra Maurya, superintendent, Children’s Protection Home.

Jaihind Kumar Singh, secretary, DLSA said that efforts should be made to transfer the children from other districts to their respective correction homes. “Since Ghaziabad and Saharanpur do not have their own Observation Home, the children are being kept here. This poses a challenge for the children to travel to respective district courts,” he said.

Officials also found seven kids without any advocate assigned to them. “The in-charge of the observation home was directed to provide the kids with DLSA panel advocates who provide free services to the Juvenile Justice Board,” Singh said.
