Noida: Skywalk linking Sec 52 to 51 Metro station to open in a month

The five-metre wide and 420-metre-long skywalk has been built at a cost of ₹40 crore after demolishing a 300 metre-long walkway, which was covered by a tin shed

The Noida authority on Thursday said that a skywalk connecting the Sector 52 and Sector 51 Metro stations will be opened within a month.

The five-metre wide and 420-metre-long skywalk has been built at a cost of ₹40 crore after demolishing a 300 metre-long walkway, which was covered by a tin shed. Noida Metro Rail Corporation (NMRC) carried out the construction to ensure a hassle-free commute through an ‘air-conditioned’ skywalk between Delhi Metro’s Blue Line in Sector 52 to Noida’s Aqua Line in Sector 51.

“This skywalk will be equipped with a travelator operating at a speed of 0.5metre per second so that the users get an ease in travelling through Blue Line and Aqua Line,” Krishna Krunesh, chief executive officer (CEO), Noida Authoritytold media.

However, now, Noida Authority’s civil department has said it will dismantle a beam in Sector 51 Metro station that was found to be blocking the entry of the walkway.

Officials claimed that the demolition of the beam between two columns of the Metro station will not affect the strength. “We will take corrective measures to address the ongoing issue related with the beam, and the skywalk will be opened within a month,” the CEO added.

Atul Kumar Gupta, senior town planner, president of Uttar Pradesh Architects’ Association (Noida) said that it was a “blunder”.

“There is a violation of the laid down technical norms while making a detailed project report (DPR) and getting the technical verification. How can they replace the beam now?” he said.

However, NMRC officials said this had happened because the skywalk was earlier planned on a single pillar and, later, a decision was taken to build it on two pillars.

“But when the work started at the site, we found electricity cables beneath. Therefore, this project was redesigned on two pillars following the technical vetting of this project by the IIT Delhi,” said an NMRC official privy to the developments, requesting anonymity.

Noida Authority deputy general manager Vijay Rawal said, “This is not a mistake that cannot be rectified. We can take remedial measures and the issue will be addressed properly.”

The skywalk has already missed earlier deadlines in the past because its design was changed after the work started in 2023, said officials.

In September 2025, the NMRC had said that it would open the skywalk on October 2, 2025, but it didn’tbecause work could not be completed on time. The skywalk was supposed to become operational in a year from the day work commenced.
