Vikas Arora, commissioner of Gurugram police, said around 1,000 additional police officers had been deployed to ensure smooth conduct of festivities at the city’s 26 identified locations.

“The step has been taken considering the large gatherings observed at several Chhath locations, including Sheetla Mata Parking, Kanhai Village, Om Vihar (Sector 23), Shakti Park, Ryan Enclave, Surat Nagar Phase 2, and Saraswati Enclave,” Arora said.

The other locations where security measures have been stepped up include Labour Chowk and Panjiri Plant in Sector 5, Devilal Colony, Patel Nagar, New Palam Vihar, Kadipur Community Centre, Bhimgarh Kheri, Ryan Enclave, Manesar Talab and Maruti Kunj.

“Due to a large presence of Purvanchali people in these areas, with an expected turnout of 15,000-20,000 devotees during Chhath Puja, special overnight deployments have been ordered,” Arora added.

Officials have been tasked with keeping a vigil on the ghats and altars to deter any miscreants and prevent any untoward incidents.
