26-year-old jobless man found hanging in Mohali

The deceased was a native of Uttar Pradesh and living with a relative in Kumbra village, Mohali, for a month

A 26-year-old man was found hanging from a tree in a vacant plot in Phase 8 on Saturday.

The deceased was a native of Uttar Pradesh and living with a relative in Kumbra village, Mohali, for a month to find a job in the city.

The body was spotted by a passer-by, who sounded the police.

The deceased was identified with the help of a PAN card and Aadhaar card found in his pocket. No suicide note was recovered.

Police said the deceased’s relatives shared that he was stressed as he was unable to a find a job for the past one month. Father of a two-month-old girl, he had gone missing on Friday night.

The body has been moved to the civil hospital in Phase 6 for autopsy.

UT police course for personal security officers ends

Chandigarh A two-week course for Chandigarh Police’s personal security officers (PSOs), organised in association with the National Security Guard (NSG), concluded at the Recruit Training Centre, Police Lines, Sector 26, on Friday. The course was aimed at training the PSOs regarding their duties with protected persons as well as during VIP visits. A valedictory ceremony was organised on Saturday and certificates were distributed among the PSOs.

Chandigarh Police arrested two youths while gambling at a park in Ram Darbar on Friday. ₹10,250 cash were recovered from the possession of the accused – Sahil, alias Kalu, 23, and Amarjeet, 23, both residents of Phase 1, Ram Darbar. Shopkeepers skip meeting with PU officials

Shopkeepers did not attend an online meeting that was convened by a Panjab University (PU) panel to discuss their demands, the varsity said on Saturday. PU said the shopkeepers instead sought a physical meeting, which was not feasible under the current pandemic situation. However, 14 senior functionaries of the university attended the meeting. The meeting was called after shopkeepers staged a dharna at varsity’s Gate 2 on Friday. They have voiced concerns against double electricity meter security, property tax liability and hike in rent from legal heirs of deceased shopkeepers.However, PU in its official communiqué said these issues were already resolved rationally in the previous meeting with the traders’ association.
