UP Special Task Force (STF), along with Banda police, seized a large consignment of codeine-based cough syrup worth around ₹60.45 lakh and arrested four people in Banda, police said on Thursday.

The syrup was being transported in a DCM and was allegedly headed from Delhi to Atarra. Acting on a tip-off, the STF and the police intercepted the vehicle on the Atarra-Bisanda road near the Bundelkhand expressway.
A search of the DCM led to the recovery of 30,000 bottles of 100ml each, packed in 250 cartons. The total quantity was around 3,000 litres, police said. A car allegedly escorting the DCM was also intercepted.
The four arrested men were identified as Dhirendra of Bisanda, Praveen alias Lucky, Rohit, both residents of Attara and Shekhar of Hapur .
Circle officer, Baberu, Krishnakant Tripathi said the STF had received information that a DCM carrying codeine syrup could be intercepted in Banda. A joint team was subsequently formed with Bisanda police and the vehicles were intercepted during checking.
Police are questioning the four men to establish where the consignment had been brought from and where it was to be delivered. Further legal proceedings are underway.
