A high-tension power line snapped and fell inside a government school in Hamirpur district on Tuesday morning after coming in contact with a dumper truck. The live wire sparked and emitted loud bursts, causing panic and a stampede-like situation among the students. The children were evacuated by climbing over the rear boundary wall.

The incident occurred in Benda Danda village, under Chikasi police station limits, where a dumper truck, while trying to reverse amid a traffic jam near a sand mining route, came into contact with an overhead power line. The impact caused the power line to snap, resulting in electrical sparks spreading across the school premises located directly underneath the line.

Witnesses said that around 40 to 45 students were present inside the school at the time of the incident.

Station house officer (SHO) of Chikasi, Akhilesh Singh stated that the dumper truck caught fire and was completely destroyed in the blaze. The cleaner on board, identified as 30-year-old Mujibur from Hardoi district, suffered minor burns and was admitted to the government hospital in Sarila.
