For Narendra Singh (36), one of the many Kanwarias on road near Hathras city, Hindu holy month of Shravan is special for two reasons. First, it is after two years’ gap that he is out for Kanwar Yatra and secondly the attention Kanwarias are getting this time.
However, this new found attention comes for these Kanwarias in the shadows of tragic incident on Saturday when six Kanwarias were mowed down by a speeding truck near Sadabad crossing in Hathras district.
Additional director general (ADG) Rajeev Krishna moved from Agra and reached Hathras within couple of hours of the mishap. Chief minister Yogi Adityanath expressed condolence and within 24 hours SP Hathras Vikas Kumar Vaid was replaced by Devesh Kumar Pandey. The new SP too made it a point to address the issue of Kanwarias from the very day of his joining on Sunday.
Earlier on Sunday, a Kanwaria got an electric shock from an electricity pole near Haidari chowk in Marhara town of Etah district but recovered later. Taking a serious note of it, Etah district magistrate Ankit Kumar Agarwal ordered a probe and on same day superintending engineer, power department, Raj Kumar suspended junior engineer Vijay Kumar for negligence.
Orders were issued for updating power arrangements on the route taken by these Kanwarias. The DM and the SSP of Firozabad were on road showering rose petals on to the Kanwarias passing on the road. Tents to welcome them were pitched on roadside and refreshments were provided with cops serving tea and snacks to the Kanwarias who at first appeared rather amused by this new found attitude of those in uniform.

{{/usCountry}}Police response vehicles (PRVs) were stationed at every 10 km, said public relations office of Firozabad Police. On Monday, Muslims in Agra came on roads to shower petals on to the Kanwarias crossing MG Road near Rawli Mahadev temple.
“We want to communicate a message of communal harmony and universal brotherhood by showring petals on our Hindu brothers,” said Nadeem Noor, the sarpanch (head) of Uttar Pradesh Muslim Panchayat.
