LUCKNOW To give a pleasant welcome to the guests scheduled to arrive in Lucknow for Global Investors’ Summit and G20 meetings, the district administration has purchased flowers of different varieties -- Petunia, Schizanthus, Napthesium, Marigold, and Penji -- from Pune, Bareilly, and several other cities. These flowers are being used to decorate city roads to present the best picture of the state capital to the esteemed guests.
Speaking on the preparations, municipal commissioner Inderjeet Singh said, “We have to present the best picture of our city before the delegates who are arriving here. Therefore, roads have been decked up with flowers in coconut baskets. I hope they attract the eyes of passers-by.”
The senior civic official added, “LMC has purchased flowers and pots from several cities for GIS and G20 summits. We do have large nurseries in the city as well but we required a large number of flowers in a short time. From Pune, we purchased more than 50,000 flower pots and coconut baskets.”
Singh said that the colourful flowers on the side of the road have changed the imagery altogether. Additionally, the horticulture department has prepared flower beds with exotic and beautiful flowers bought from Bareilly & Pune. The decoration is done on dividers by special designers with coconut baskets and flowers inside them. Places such as Bada Imambara, 5 Kalidas Marg, Chota Imambara, Lohia Path, 1090 Chauraha, Arjunganj, and Hazratganj have been decorated with these flowers.
However, cases of some people stealing these decorative flower baskets from public spaces have also come to light. “We urge the people to cooperate with municipal corporations. Theft of some flower pots and plants has been reported. We identified the thieves through CCTVs but they were left with a warning to not repeat the act. It’s the duty of every resident to protect these plants,” added Singh.
