PRAYAGRAJ Question papers for students of Classes 9th to 12th who study in schools affiliated with U.P. Board will now be made by State Council of Educational Research and Training (SCERT) experts of the state. Earlier, the question papers were prepared by the U.P. Board.

The initiative -- which is set to impact around 28,000 secondary schools affiliated with Uttar Pradesh Madhyamik Shiksha Parishad (erstwhile U.P. Board) across the 75 districts of the state -- is being started with the preparation of question papers for Class 9th, said state secondary education department officials. A workshop for the preparation of Class 9th question papers for key subjects like Hindi, English, Science, Mathematics, and Social Science is going to be held at SCERT, U.P. in Lucknow from January 30 to February 3, they added.

To this end, subject experts from various District Institutes of Education and Training (DIETs) like Aligarh, Azamgarh, Sultanpur, Mau, Varanasi, Ghazipur, Maharajganj, Bareilly, Barabanki, Meerut, Siddharthnagar, Gorakhpur and Unnao have also been invited. Along with this, the workshop will also witness participation from Prayagraj-based State Institute of Education and English Language Teaching Institute, Allenganj.

Hari Prakash Yadav, patron, Uttar Pradesh Madhyamik Shikshak Sangh (United), said that the move could help standardise exams, especially for Classes 9th and 11th. Till now, schools prepared question papers for Class 9th based on the model question papers released by the U.P. Board. “Hopefully, this step would lead to a better assessment of students in line with NEP-2020,” he said.
