Winter session of state legislature from Dec 13 likely to start on stormy note

Former minister and BJP MLA Nitin Nabin said the opposition would highlight the alleged spurt in crime in Bihar since the formation of the grand alliance government led by the Janata Dal (United)-Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD).

PATNA: The winter session of the two houses of the state legislature is likely to start on a stormy note from Tuesday with the opposition Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) set to corner the state government on issues of law and order, development, and job promise to youths.

The winter session of the assembly scheduled to be held from December 13 to December 19 will have a total of five sittings and a second supplementary budget would be presented during the session, officials said.

Former minister and BJP MLA Nitin Nabin said the opposition would highlight the alleged spurt in crime in Bihar since the formation of the grand alliance government led by the Janata Dal (United)-Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD).

Nabin also said the narrative of development in the state as pushed by the previous NDA government had completely been pushed in the backburner by the present GA government with chief minister Nitish Kumar hardly even mentioning his seven resolve programmes.

“Bihar’s development process has suffered a big setback as the GA government is doing nothing. In the name of giving jobs, the government is only showcasing such appointments which were already processed during the previous NDA government,” Nabin said.

Speaker of the state assembly Awadh Bihari Choudhary, in a meeting with officials earlier this week, had directed the chief secretary Amir Subhani to ensure that all replies to questions raised by legislators should be presented during the five-day long winter session.

The Speaker said the timely availability of replies to questions raised by members of the house so that government is able to discharge its responsibility of being accountable to the assembly and more issues related to public importance could be discussed. “The timely presentation of replies to questions raised by members would enhance the relevance of the house and strengthen the democratic system. The replies to pending questions should be also presented,” the Speaker had directed the chief secretary.
