2 booked for claiming prayer cures cancer at public event

The Bharati Vidyapeeth police have registered a case against two individuals for allegedly promoting superstition by organising a meeting in Mohan Nagar, Dhankawadi, where claims were made that serious illnesses such as cancer and tuberculosis could be cured through prayers. The complaint was filed by Nikhil Balwant Palkar (36), a resident of Navnath Nagar, Dhankawadi.

Based on his complaint, the police have booked Maxine Antony Thekkeliyeel (47), a resident of Shingnapur, Saswad, and Saji George (48), a resident of Sankla Enclave, Pisoli. According to the police, the incident took place on December 21 at around 10am at the R Cube Cultural Hall in Mohan Nagar.

The complainant and his friends had attended a programme at the R Cube cultural hall. During the event, Maxine allegedly claimed that his prayers had cured people of serious illnesses such as cancer and tuberculosis.

The complainant alleged that such statements promote superstitions and mislead the public. Based on the complaint, the police registered a case. Assistant inspector Ganesh Mohite said, “ A notice has been issued to the two accused and further investigation is underway.”
