PUNE: A 70-year-old woman was allegedly murdered in Daund, and police are still searching for the victim’s severed head. Pune rural police arrested two suspects within 12 hours of the crime on Thursday.

The deceased has been identified as Suman Shinde. According to the complaint filed by her daughter, Trupti Hirve, 45, a resident of Shirur, the incident came to light on August 19.
According to police, the deceased, who was living alone, was killed at her home, and a bad odour spread in the locality on Wednesday. Accordingly, locals approached the police, and when they opened the door of her home, her decomposed, beheaded body was found.
Separate teams from the Daund police station and the Pune rural local crime branch were formed to trace the suspects.
During the investigation, police detained Vicky alias Vikram Dhanraj Alhat and Prasad Babulal Chavan, both residents of Daund, for questioning.
Bapurao Dadas, deputy superintendent of police (Daund division), said, “The deceased was living alone in her home and was always having arguments with locals. After one such argument with the alcoholic accused, the angry accused allegedly killed her with sharp weapons.”
Hemant Shedge, police inspector at Daund Police Station, said, “After questioning locals, we have zeroed in on four individuals and questioned them. Of whom, two confessed that they killed and beheaded the woman. To destroy the evidence, they have thrown her head in the river. Police are searching for the victim’s severed head.”
