The agitation stems from growing dissatisfaction among drivers over the functioning of app-based companies. Protesters alleged that these platforms have failed to implement government-approved fares, not displayed officially sanctioned rates on their apps, and continue to operate allegedly illegal bike taxi services.

Drivers claim that despite repeated directives from the transport minister and the transport commissioner, the companies have ignored government instructions, forcing them to intensify their protest.

Keshav Kshirsagar, president, Baghtoy Rikshawala Auto Union, said the agitation was the result of prolonged neglect. “Despite clear government orders, these companies continue to defy them. This affects the livelihoods of lakhs of drivers and creates an unjust transport ecosystem,” he said.
