Crushers’ association strike affects construction activity in Pune

The construction industry claims to have suffered loss of around ₹50 crore as the week-long strike has caused non-availability of crushed sand, plaster sand, stone and gravel

The strike by the Pune District Mining and Crusher Association has affected the Pune Metro project, Chandni Chowk Road works by the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), public works in Bhima Koregaon and construction works across the district.

The construction industry claims to have suffered loss of around ₹50 crore as the week-long strike has caused non-availability of crushed sand, plaster sand, stone and gravel. Pune Metro officials have requested district collector Rajesh Deshmukh to intervene and address the issue.

Around 250 traders are part of the district quarry and crushers association.

Sanjay Bamane, district mining officer, said that the nine-day strike has hit NHAI and Pune Metro works.

“We have requested traders to promptly provide raw material for public works,” he said.

Pradeep Kand, president, Pune District Mining and Crusher Association, said, “The police have banned heavy vehicles from Navale bridge between 6 am and 11 pm and the decision has affected supply of construction material. One of our demands include relaxation by the traffic police on entry of heavy vehicles in the city limits.”
