Pune/Nashik: Heavy rains lashed parts of Nashik on Tuesday, but no cloudburst was reported anywhere around the district.

The state government on Monday had alerted the Nashik administration about the possibility of a cloudburst in the Trimbakeshwar region of rural Nashik, where rainfall of up to 300 mm was expected.
“We had heavy rains in parts of rural Nashik. But thankfully, there was no cloudburst-like rain in Nashik. The weather vortex, which had caused heavy rains in Palghar yesterday, was expected to pass along the Trimbakeshwar-Nashik axis today. But it has shifted northwards towards Surat and southwards towards Akole in Ahilyanagar,” said district collector Ayush Prasad.
State disaster management minister Girish Mahajan, who had been camping in Nashik since Monday night, visited rural parts of the district early Tuesday to take stock of the situation following the heavy rains.
Igatpuri (200 mm), Trimbakeshwar (125 mm), Surgana (149 mm) and Peth (61 mm) recorded the highest rainfall in the district over the past 24 hours. The water level of the Godavari River has risen following the heavy rains.
District officials said landslides were reported at Kasara ghat near Igatpuri and Kotambi ghat in Peth. The debris was removed quickly, and vehicular movement was not affected. As a precautionary measure, the district administration restricted vehicle movement on the ghat section in Deola taluka.

The Nashik irrigation department issued a warning to residents living along the banks of the Godavari to remain alert, as the Nandur Madhmeshwar dam in Niphad taluka had begun releasing 21,900 cusecs of water.
Meanwhile, Akole taluka in Ahilyanagar district received heavy rains during the early hours of Tuesday. The district administration declared a holiday for all schools in the taluka. A bridge over the Mula River in Akole was submerged following the rains.
Ahilyanagar district collector Pankaj Ashiya said the discharge from the Bhima river had crossed one lakh cusecs since Tuesday morning. “The people in low-lying areas have been advised to remain cautious,” he added.
